Tell me about your screens! :P
I'm freaking out a little cause I've noticed that whenever I visit thyla87 and make or look at icons on her computer, they look totally different than on mine. I mean, I can make an icon at home and love it and then when I see it on another screen it's HIDEOUS! D: So the question to naturally enter my mind is: how do I know what sorts of screens everyone else has? What are your brightness and contrast settings? I feel my screen might bee on too much brigthness and contrast, resulting in my icons lacking just that (cause my screen gives these to them autimatically!). I mean they look seriously bland on her screen, lacking both color depth (this might be another setting entirely, a color profile or something? Or probably just a natural result of her brightness being higher than mine while contrast being low?) and contrast. o_O It really bothers me cause now it feels like success at icon communities is partly just random chance at who happens to have similar enough settings to mine, and who sees my icons as crap. SO GIVE ME NUMBERS PLZ (especially everyone from farscape_20in20 ) so I can adjust my settings to  match what seems to be the average. :D THANKS IN ADVANCE if anyone will relieve my stress by sharing their screen secrets. :P

Now I'm hoping my screen is worse and my icons get a boost on everyone else's or something... HAHAH

I have no idea, but I find that they often look better to me in PS and then lose something when i upload them. It's frustrating to me because I am like I swear that red was redder or the face was clearer... hnnnnng

I love all your work though, so I think you might be on some crack or something thinking that it ever looks flat or not deep!!!

Lol, that's what we're all hoping for isn't it :D seriously though your icons look great on my screen, so either my screen really gives them a boost or they're awesome originally (and I hardly think it's the screen alone, soo.. ;D )

Thanks, I'm relieved to hear you apparently don't see my things like I see them on that other screen. :p I'm not on crack, I'm just my own worst enemy when it comes to graphics... so much more critical towards myself than towards any others o_O I'm weird that way.

Yep,

If there is one thing your icons are not it's flat and boring.

I can always see a depth of colour and shadow. The contrast and brightness is always good.

i have to admit the same thing as Jo though, when I see my icons on PS I am happy and then sometimes they lose a little when they are uploaded but not a huge issue.

Are you mad? Your icons are fab!

Thank you! It's awesome to hear you see them like that, your screen is probably very similar to mine (considering how great your graphics too look on my screen). I have never really seen much difference between the uploaded version and the original one, but now that you two mentioned it I'll have to pay super close attention :D That's exactly what's missing here, another stupid detail to worry and stress abolut...

And see.it's the opposite on mine... I think my icons look good, but not great, and then I upload them and they look brighter and better.

I think your icons are fantastic. they look fine to me, in all honesty. Each screen itself is so different, in quality, so it's hard to say if it's resolutions, or simply the quality of the screen itself. (matte, vs gloss for one... )

Oh, it can go that way too? :D This is getting really interesting. So much randomness involved in icon posting :p

But thanks, really. It's the best thing to hear words like that, makes me stress a little less about these things. I'm pretty sure resolution is one thing that sets these two screens apart (mine is bigger, so that could be a factor).

I have experienced this same thing. I have a desktop I do graphics on and a laptop I generally use for browsing things. The icons I make often look different from the desktop to the laptop (usually a lack of color/contrast).

So I've discovered screen settings can sometimes make a huge difference on how good an icon looks. Your icons usually look good for me on both computers I use (mine however seem to piss me off when I look at them on my laptop). But yeah screen resolution/settings can sometimes play a large part in how good graphics can look for other people.

Oh, this is interesting, since the computer that's giving me a headache is a laptop as well. Maybe those screens just aren't that good for graphics :p If this is the significant variable here it would be pretty ok, cause I can assume most people still use their desktops for viewing the graphics, but I'm not sure.

I think it can vary pretty well actually. Because I had a panic a while back when I realized my graphics looked awesome on my desktop and never looked as colorful/interesting on my laptop. Most screens are similar but there are lots of little things that can make some stuff look gorgeous on some and really lacking on others.

I wouldn't worry about it though, because there's not much you can do. There's bound to be variation in screens and you can't make something that will look perfect on everyone's settings. Plus everyone has said your graphics look great regardless, so you're fine :D
